Moth
A song which Raine recorded a demo of in the fall of 2010. He worked on it again in February. On May 5th, the band went over it and worked on developing a full arrangement. They reworked it a bit around August.
"I see the light of the candle
The moth by the flame
Four leaf clover
You've got life in your breath
You've got life in your veins
It's far from over now
What are you waiting for?
We're already there
What are you waiting for?"

"If I were noble

The Wolf
The band focused on this song a lot early in the recording process. A new version was completed during each of the first 3 recording sessions. It made its live debut in Niagara Falls on July 2nd.
1st version
"Thinking about it's all the same
Everybody can explain
?
But it happens every day
Lying on an overhang
Feeling like you never wait
You can have it, all your waiting
All this time ?
It's okay
But oh, with your fire waiting
And I am there
I wait but there's no escaping
I will be the..."

"Don't leave me waiting
The wolf is already at my door
He's run out of patience
I gave him my blood but he wants more
And I don't belong
And I don't belong here anymore
There's a wolf outside my door
?"
cutting "the wolf" challenging the OLP sound...in a good way - Raine, May 4
3rd version
"Fire in the hen house
Protests in the deep south
Changing shapes and moving plates and shifting warring powers here to stay
Shangri-La in reverse
Time to call the wet nurse
Movie queens and wolverines and libertines all dressed up to the nines
Don't leave me waiting
Don't leave me waiting here alone
He's run out of patience
He's run out of patience, he wants more
But I don't belong
I don't belong here anymore
There's a wolf outside my door
Markets on the rebound
Riots in the ghost towns
Swimming pools and sunday school
And children looking up with famous eyes
Their dirty little secrets
Keep picking on the weakest
From Timbuktu to Belarus to Canada they're wearing a disguise
Don't leave me waiting
Don't leave me waiting here alone
He's run out of patience
He's run out of patience, he wants more
But I don't belong
I don't belong here anymore
There's a wolf outside my door
Sending out a feeling kinda
I don't know that feeling
I am not my... my... my....
Don't leave me waiting
Don't leave me waiting here alone
He's run out of patience
He's run out of patience, he wants more
But I don't belong
I don't belong here anymore
There's a wolf outside my
Wolf outside my
Wolf outside my door"

Body Into Soul
The band worked on recording this song during the 2nd recording session in late April and early May. The lyrics were rewritten and title changed before the 3rd recording session in late May.
1st version - "Body In Tow"
"Moving through this time and space
There's gotta be a better way
A place where...
Can't miss opportunity
A chance to see what hasn't been seen
Taking notes on what you see
Thought this was a good idea
But the consequences are much too real
All my instincts hit the ground
I was up but now I'm down
Having no right to go
My body has been towed
I don't wanna know
Feels so good to...
Body has no weight
I don't want to know
Burnt into the atmosphere
But the oceans have a different plan
Remember all the honey bees
We were in love but
I never knew what it all meant
But its suddenly making sense"
An early draft of lyrics was posted in a flickr image on May 1st.
2nd version
"Taking notes on what I see
A celestial democracy
Rocket to the great unknown
Searching for that big plateau"
steve and i worked on a song titled "body into soul" combination of raw rock n roll gtr riff with beautiful chiming guitars. lots of chords - Raine, May 18
Warnings
The band worked on writing this song in February/March, and recorded it in May. A demo clip was sent to contest winners on June 6th.
"Fill the car with gasoline
Feed your change to the machines
Powerless to our routines
Close to singularity
You count your blessings as you go
Cross your fingers, follow the unknown
Warnings, all I hear is warnings coming down on me
But I've got a heart that bleeds
Calling, all I hear is calling, calling after me
But I've got a heart that bleeds"
If This Is It
This song was recorded during the band's second and third sessions in May, but a clip posted on July 20th shows the band developing it further.
1st version
"I could be your greatest accident
And I could be the skin on your fingertips
Nothing wrong, nothing to regret
Just want to breathe you in
If this is it
Slowly we begin
And I could be
Everything
I could be the head upon your breast
And I could be your greatest confidant
Just want to breathe you in
If this is it
Slowly we begin
And I could see
If this is it
Slowly we give in
And I could see
I could be your greatest accident
If this is it
Slowly we give in
And I could be
If this is it
Slowly we give in
And I could be
Everything
I could be"

Window Seat
The band recorded this song at the end of June, but haven't posted any clips.
"I'm breathing a lie
Nothing left by my side
?
Reason and time
Bring me back here alive
But you [?] and fade
One by one we fall asleep
Like passengers in window seats
I know I should go but I stay
One by one we float away
Like accidents and castaways
I know I should go but I stay here"

An airy guitar track, and lots of syncopated kick drum. But it sounds like Jeremy's not done yet. A short clip was posted on September 12th, with a longer one following on November 8th.

Fight the Good Fight
This song was released free online on October 21st, and dedicated to the Occupy Wall Street movement. Many fans have speculated that it will not be included on the new album.
"I've got this thorn in my side
I've got the boogeyman jive
I know just what to do
We gotta take back the throne
And let the kids rock and roll
I know just what to do
Take me home to the place we understand
Where the cold winds blow and revolution's in the air
And all we know, we're fighting for what we had
Fight the good fight
Fight the good fight
When war is declared
We gotta get back to square
I know just what to do
Not gonna swallow my pride
Or do a Jekyll and Hyde
I know just what to do
Take me home to the place we understand
Where the cold winds blow and revolution's in the air
And all we know, we're fighting for what we had
Fight the good fight
You hear me knocking on your door
I send the joker to the whore
Time to even up the score
Take me home to the place we understand
Where the cold winds blow and revolution's in the air
And all we know, we're fighting for what we had
Fight the good fight
Fight the good fight
Fight the good fight
Fight the good fight
Every once in a while a change has to come
We'll raise our hands to the beat of the drum
To the beat of the drum
To the beat of the drum"

More than ?

I'd do it again
I feel the ?
I feel the love
I feel the purpose ?
I make this time
I don't ask why
I feel love
And you're all the same kind

Unidentified song #1
A down-tempo guitar track posted on April 22nd. We can't quite place this into the songs we've heard in any of the other clips, so it may be all we've heard of yet another new song!
Unidentified song #2
This fragment of a song was played live in the studio with acoustic guitar + vocals, and posted to youtube on April 26th. It's not known if the band is working on a studio recording.
Unidentified song #3
Posted on May 5th, this clip features a strummed acoustic guitar pattern while Jeremy contemplates the drum pattern. This is either a new song idea being written, or perhaps it is a very different take at "Like Rabbits We Run" or "Body Into Soul."
Unidentified song #4 ("Crashing Down")
The antithesis of everything on Burn Burn. A drum + keyboard bassline groove with wandering synths and atmospheric guitar creeping through the spaces. The following clip was posted on May 29th.
"I can feel ?
They've come to stay
A light comes on
You're famous not to pay
Who's gonna be there when it all comes crashing down
The more you fight you know you cannot save"
Unidentified song #5 ("I Hear You Calling")
A straight-forward rock song. A clip of the band recording it was posted on August 5th.
"I hear you calling
I hear you waiting
?
"
Unidentified song #6
This clip, posted to youtube on September 10th, begins slowly, then picks up tempo and sounds like it's getting ready to go somewhere -- right when the guys stop playing!
Unidentified song #7
Guitar riffs with big hooks. Lots of snare drum. The following clip was posted on September 13th. A part has been arranged for cello, according to discussion between Duncan and Steve in another clip posted on September 26th.
Unidentified song #8
A new song that Steve was working on in December
Working on a very different vibe/piece for OLP. Jazzy, spacey, a bit sad. Just guitars and a bass. Hopefully it'll find it's way to OLP#8 - Steve, December 4
