After nearly a decade and a half as frontman for Our Lady Peace, Raine Maida launched a solo career in 2006 as a creative outlet for songs and ideas that did not fit with OLP.

The Hunters Lullaby 2006-2008

Maida's first album, The Hunters Lullaby, was recorded with acoustic instruments only, and the vocal styles were heavily influenced by slam poetry and spoken word artists, including a guest appearance by Jared Paul. The album was preceeded by a 4 song EP, titled "Love, Hope, Hero", released in 2006. Maida toured the material for his first album across small clubs and theatres in Canada, supported by drummer Randy Cooke, cellist/guitarist and backing vocals from Kevin Fox, and wife Chantal Kreviazuk on piano and backing vocals. Spoken word artist Jared Paul joined Maida as an opening act, and reprised his vocal performance in "The Less I Know" on several Eastern Canadian dates. The concerts features songs from The Hunters Lullaby, iTunes bonus tracks "21st Century Blues" and "Victim of a Small Town", as well as covers of Neil Young's "Ohio", Pixies' "Where is My Mind?", Billy Talent's "Try Honesty", and Our Lady Peace's "Innocent." The Hunters Lullaby featured two singles, "Sex, Love, Honey", and "Yellow Brick Road." "Sex, Love, Honey" was accompanied by an animated music video, created by Teqtonik, while "Yellow Brick Road" featured Maida playing on the streets of Toronto on his original Busking for Change campaign in support of War Child Canada.

Maida began work on his second album, tentatively titled "We All Get Lighter" in 2009, and is scheduled for a likely release on November 29, 2011. The album already has several songs recorded, and will feature some electric guitar. The first single from the album, "Bury Me With A Gun", is available for purchase at online retailers. Personnel for the album again includes Raine's wife, Chantal Kreviazuk, cellist Kevin Fox, and drummer Randy Cook.
