Bob called me in Toronto the night before Christmas and asked if I had any other song ideas that we should consider before we headed back to Hawaii to finish the album in January. The phone call propelled me to write seven new songs during the ten days we had off at Christmas. Then the song Somewhere Out There, that really is about that feeling, you know, when you're sitting in a restaurant and you see a couple sitting next to you at a table and they're not talking, and five minutes later they're still not talking, and you start to feel uncomfortable for them, you know? It's about trying the -- the physical connection is one thing but it's trying to get back to that emotional and spiritual connection. It's a song about connection, physical, emotional and spiritual connection. A good parallel is when you're in a restaurant and you see a couple sitting together but they're not talking. An hour later, you look over and it makes you feel uncomfortable to see that they're not having a good time. And they're sitting right next to each other but they're not really 'together.'
